Blue adventure

Making a few discoveries is an exciting experience for anyone, especially encountering mega marine wildlife while on a diving holiday. The Dive in Australia crew organise trips for those who want to experience sharks, whales, manta rays, whale sharks, turtles and many more animals around Australia and overseas – up close.

Here is the new video I produced – showcasing some of the excitement waiting for anyone looking for adventure by scuba diving off the coast of Kavieng in Papua New Guinea!

Make video your story

There are many ways to present a story about your business or the interests you pursue. A video can be a positive ally when attempting to achieve the ultimate goal – gaining the trust of new customers.

No matter the makeup of the business, a sole trader or a team of people, each has an interesting tale about its origins or a philosophy it likes to follow, so consider the type of video that is representative of your public identity.

A commercial to advertise products; an explainer video to demonstrate expertise; or a simple video introducing others to what the business is all about, clothing, tourism, hospitality, sport or a trade – the list is endless – makes a big difference to the decision an individual makes.

A video is not just an introduction, it is also a valuable method of making people more aware of what your business offers and who the people are behind the website or shop front. You never know, a new customer might just be around the corner. But they don’t know about your service, until they know more about you.

Teachers are taking on augmented reality (AR) as a new tool for immersing students into an environment they may be unable to experience for any number of reasons – location, access, distance, time, financial expense, health and safety.

Some augmented reality apps offer the chance for students in remote inland country areas to study coastal environments or travel to Mars to study its geology without leaving the classroom .

Lessons can be presented as simulated scenarios using mobile devices. Or the student’s view of the natural environment through virtual reality (VR) glasses can be manipulated by imposing fictional video layers over the surroundings.

Students can experience lessons in the present, future or go back in time to the world of the Pharaohs in Egypt or the age of the dinosaurs before the big asteroid hit Earth.

This type of lesson connects theory with practical experiences in the field, office or the lab, allowing teachers to guide students through a maze of new concepts, facts, methods and perspectives about all kinds of topics, for example, science, history, art, music or architecture.

Most people cannot go about their daily tasks without checking their mobile devices; and innovative technologies are streamlining curriculum activities, enabling students to study remotely online or coordinate their studies with work commitments.

Salty Wave Productions can assist develop VR scenarios for students to learn from by video. AR caters for the different methods individuals learn information – listening, writing, practical experience or visualising – and it is an exciting platform for teachers to create lessons that will inspire students to take on new challenges by the careers they follow, through study.

Surf This Safari

If you’re looking around for someone to recapture lost paradise in a neat vehicle for your network of friends and family, connect with Salty Wave Productions.

Going away on a holiday can be just as great on the return or going back to where you began – in video.

Released in the 1960’s, it is still one of the most talked about films of its genre in modern times. It was produced by Bruce Brown who filmed a couple of surfers travelling around the world searching for the perfect wave.

A lot of people have emulated his take on the surfing narrative but your take on the day makes your spin way different.

Most people have access to a camera via their mobile, a go-pro, tablet, i-Pad or DSLR + video cameras with the built in advantage of uploading the goods onto your favourite social media channel; send up to the cloud; or external storage via lab top, USB, drive or disc.

Flickr is a great option because you can set the app settings to upload images captured on your mobile phone to your Flickr account. You can select whether the videos and images remain private and at a later time, select the ones to upload to Facebook or Instagram for everyone to see.

This is handy for those trekking anywhere, especially overseas, because all your images are saved securely, in case the camera or mobile phone is lost, broken or stolen.

There are some pretty good storage choices out there if you are looking around, but the best option is to think about what you have already and then build on it from there. You don’t need the most expensive item to store media.

Affordable deals are available for storage devices at retail outlets and online. I usually compare prices and target a product with enough storage to hold images and videos – usually terrabytes not gigabytes.

Gigabytes are great for documents – MS and PDF – but in the long term, 1 terrabyte = 1000 gigbytes = 1000 000 megabytes. Terrabyte storage is getting cheaper, so it is a better long-term option for storing photos and videos.

If you have these clips of your surfing, kiteboarding, bodyboarding or windsurfing adventures from all over the place and you know what the professionals are doing on TV and the web, there’s no reason why you can’t have an amazing safari video similar to or even better than what’s already out there.

Editing a video can be time consuming, if you don’t have the technical gismos or the time to spend on it.

A 5 minute or 30 minute surfing video, highlighting all your tricks and spins on the water, is a great way to capture happy days. Even the worst moments experienced during a holiday – flat tyre or broken board – can be the most enthralling tale in its telling.

It’s your move and whatever you do, you’ve got those memories to take with you.
